Hi there,
One random thing that has happened to me this week is that I have started learning chess, again.
Again because this is my fifth attempt in the last three years but the first time I am committed to not giving up.
Why?
Because I am learning on Duolingo and that app has a way of making everything fun and annoyingly competitive.
The experience has been exciting, exhilarating and also super-humbling.
I mean, someone beat me on chess , and beat me twice more, and I wanted to reach out via the chessboard to ask why. such brutality.
It is fascinating to begin to learn from the scratch, to learn about openings, movements, how to check, how to deliver a checkmate, and lots more and this process is rather painful because why are there so many possibilities all at once.
This is why I prefer checkers/draught/draft.
Two days ago, my super-brilliant friend who is an amazing storyteller was learning how to edit videos, and when I asked how the process is going, she says Capcut and Canva are slapping her hard.
Fascinating, isn’t it? That an expert in one field is about to begin again, learning the ropes of different fields.
It is why I really respect those who travel to a new country and start again, those who went for their Masters/MBA and graduated with a Distinction, those who change career path three times in a decade and excel in all the three; those folks have mastered the art of being a beginner again.
Anyways, no lessons today; instead, I am open to receiving all the chess lessons and advice you have for a beginner who is determined not to quit.

P:S- Why do they say the King is the most powerful piece when the Queen is the piece that wields the most power?
Looking forward to your responses if you play chess.
